ARLA 1 english modification (AlgoChem Reactor Lab. Assistant) is an automatic reactor of chemistry, controlled by computer in order to increase the productivity, to improve the precision of results and to optimize the reproducibility of the syntheses carried out.
The reagents are added during the reaction using balances and pumps. ARLA 1 then carries out automatically the delicate operations, such as the temperature control of the reactional medium or the adjustment and the maintenance of a value of pH (acid or basic).
The convivial user interface allows the fast and simple entry test parameters. The chemical syntheses are carried out entirely by the automatism, are controlled, put in memory and are documented.

More concretely, ARLA 1, it is :
a regulation and measuring unit controlled by a computer
- engine out of glass of 50 ml to 10 litters (other materials and capacity on request)
- an agitator
- probes of pH and temperature
- a group of heating (-80°C with 300°C according to models' with a significant power of cold)
- balances
- proportioning pumps
a software allowing to enchained the operations
- temperature control: the user can fix the instruction of temperature either in the reactional mass (in the case of reaction exothermic, the group of heat and cold controls so as to preserve the temperature of instruction in the reactional medium), or in the double envelope of the engine (in order to have a constant temperature to carry out a reaction to backward flow for example).

- Collection of all relevant information (temperatures, liquid additions of reagents, pH, speed stirring…) and their transposition in the form of curves and of descriptions.
- ELAB notes: reporting with the format book of laboratory making it possible to calculate the outputs and to export the data in an editor like Microsoft Word.

In addition, of a simple click of mouse, the operator can take again the manual control of each instrument, in real time.

The Interface: :
ARLA 1 is convivial and simple to use thanks to its user Interface extremely realistic :
All the apparatuses and their state are visible with screen at the same time (mass, T°C, pH, flows, date and hour…).
A multitude of graphs and tables allow to visualize the data of the reaction on line.
The reaction is made safe by the management of alarms and the programmed actions.
The report/ratio makes it possible to visualize on line the events started on each apparatus.

Ease of use :
The automat of laboratory ARLA 1 is designed by chemists for chemists. The interface present on the computer is easy to use and convivial with nevertheless a high potential.

Safety :
Automat ARLA 1 has a system of management of alarm which makes it possible to make safe a reactor even in the absence of the manipulator.
A special version ‘dangerous reactions’ was developed on the basis of ARLA 1 is available:
remote control by cable or radio connection
independent warning system
high cooling power of the cryothermostat

Application :
The automats of laboratory of Algochem cover most of the traditional chemical reactions.
It is possible to visualize constantly the evolution of a reaction and to simulate industrial experimental conditions.
Moreover, it is possible to interface with the automats of laboratory of Algochem of the apparatuses specific to a given activity.

New: ARLA automated reactor fore dangerous chemical reactions

The synthesis in fine chemistry often requires the preparation of relatively significant quantities of intermediaries. In these first phases of research or development, the reactions can be brought to remain long hours without monitoring, or to represent very exothermic stages. This new automat of laboratory (ARLA "S") makes it possible to manage with a maximum of safety these possibilities. It includes/understands in particular the following systems:
Management of the actions allowing to put in safety a reaction which starts to deviate (emergency cooling, cast of a reagent, stop of stirring).
Management of alarms on all the parameters of the process.
Automatic execution of a part or all the operations since simple actions like agitation, the casting of reagents, the heating until the complex operations like the regulation of pH or the follow-up of profiles of cooling.
Report/ratio with the format book of laboratory, taking again the course of handling and including the possible treatments, the outputs, alarms…

Saving of time :
The handling time is at least reduced in automated mode: the use of a scenario makes it possible to program handling and to have a management of effective time.

The management of the users and connection to ARLA 1:
ARLA 1 has a system of management users with which it is possible to add and to remove users. Each person has the possibility of connecting herself to the software by using her own password. Thus, it is then possible to see the author of each handling. During connection, the user seizes the name or the reference of the reaction.

The electronic book of laboratory:
Once finished handling, all the data is filed in a data base of handling. It is then possible to carry out a research by selecting the suitable field.
In the file appear then the following data:
Procedure.
Reagents as well as the quantities.
The curves (temperature, additions…):
o the user has the possibility of choosing the X-coordinates and ordinates.
o the number of curves
o The superposition of the curves with the stages of the scenario is possible.

list alarms set off with the hour, the apparatus, the defect, the statute.

It is also possible to insert :
Treatments and purifications (chromatography, recrystallization, distillation, extraction liquid/liquid…).
lresults of the analyses as well as the characteristics of the product (mass, NMR, CCM, HPLC, output....). All the results of analyses can thus be consigned and this for all that products than it is necessary.

Once the memorized data, they is exported towards Microsoft Word: the report/ratio is written all alone with all information of the electronic book of laboratory. It is also possible to add other information like a scannée plate of CCM, chromatograms…
Once finished, the report/ratio is printed with the format paper.

Alarms :
To make safe the syntheses, ARLA 1 has a system of management of alarms, as well as a configurator of alarm.
The management of alarms: the apparatus on which it is necessary to program an alarm is selected and the configuration can then be carried out on the minimum and maximum threshold. Thus, the software informs the user in the event of deviation compared to the fixed instructions.
When alarms starts, it is also possible to ask the system to intervene. For example, by carrying out the casting of a reagent which neutralizes the reaction when the critical temperature is reached.

Extensions ARLA 1/ARPA 1

It is possible to incorporate in automats ARLA 1 all types of apparatuses and in particular of the instruments of analysis like an Infra-red Spectrometer or a RAMAN probe.

By modifying sets ARLA 1, the automats of laboratory of Algochem can work vacuum or under pressure (vacuum with 350 bar).

Let us underline, finally, two other quite as interesting characteristics: the existence of a version "radio connection" between the engine and the PC (when it is difficult to install a cable) and the development of a module of posting off-set on a data-processing network. This module retranscribes the posting of the PC controlling the automat towards any PC located on a network.
